Turbodiesel-Powered 1992 Volkswagen Caddy Bischofberger Family Hochdach 5-Speed

This 1992 Volkswagen Caddy Bischofberger Family Hochdach is a right-hand-drive camper conversion powered by a replacement 1.9-liter AAZ turbodiesel inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Originally delivered as a 1.6-liter gasoline-powered Caddy, it is believed to have been converted when new by Bischofberger Motorcaravan GmbH of Germany into a permanently mounted Family Hochdach camper with a high-roof body and a fully equipped camper interior. The current owner purchased the camper in 2024 and has since renewed many of its major mechanical and camping systems. Finished in Alpine White (L90E), it features the original painted stripe package, widened rear track, coilover front suspension, and ATS Cup wheels. This Volkswagen Caddy Bischofberger is now offered in the United Kingdom with V5C registration.

Finished in its original Alpine White (L90E), the body is fitted with a permanently mounted Bischofberger fiberglass high-roof camper conversion incorporating a cab pass-through, widened rear track, flared wheel arches, side skirts, extended mirrors, a two-piece rear barn door, double-layer plastic windows, a roof vent, a folding rear step, and painted striping.

The seller states that both doors and the right-front fender were replaced and repainted under previous ownership, likely due to corrosion, and notes fiberglass crazing and scratches on the camper shell, corrosion beneath the rear bumper, inoperative front and rear fog lamps, play in the upper right-side door hinge, and various cosmetic blemishes.

An awning rail has been added to the right side, and warm white LED headlight bulbs have been installed. K42 SCK is taxed through December 2026, and its MOT certificate is valid through June 2027.

Staggered ATS Cup wheels measure 15×5.5″ up front and 15×7″ at the rear and were mounted with Bridgestone front and Petlas rear tyres, under current ownership, measuring 185/55 and 195/55, respectively. The suspension has been modified with TA Technix adjustable front coilovers, Monroe Max-Air height-adjustable rear shocks, a rear axle flip, and 25mm aluminium rear wheel spacers. Service under current ownership included replacement of the rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders, a brake-fluid flush, new rear tyres, and a new right-rear wheel bearing. The right-front ball joint dust boot is missing, though a replacement component is included.

The cabin houses front bucket seats upholstered in gray cloth. Sparco drilled pedals and a Pioneer stereo have been installed. The odometer indicates 98k miles, approximately 3,500 of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes that the steering wheel sits approximately one centimeter off-center while driving straight.

The camper interior incorporates facing bench seats, a removable dining table, a collapsible double bed, a children’s sleeping configuration, under-seat storage compartments, a wardrobe, overhead cabinets, a stainless-steel sink with electric faucet, a two-burner gas cooktop with grill function, shore-power capability, and a roof vent. Improvements under current ownership include a 12-volt Alpicool compressor refrigerator, dimmable LED lighting, a Renogy 1,000-watt inverter, USB charging outlets, dual 40-liter fresh-water tanks, a rear cabin power cutoff switch, custom mattress protectors, fitted sheets, and two fork-mount bicycle carriers.

Power is provided by a retrofitted Volkswagen 1.9-liter AAZ turbodiesel installed under previous ownership, reportedly around 2010. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed 020 CHD manual gearbox. Additional modifications fitted by the seller include a larger Radtec aluminum radiator, dual electric cooling fans, a Febi-Bilstein 90-amp alternator, relocation of the battery system to dual Hankook XL31 130Ah deep-cycle batteries behind the front seats, updated wiring and fuse panels, a GTE Track Thatcham GPS tracker/immobilizer, a K&N air filter, and underhood sound insulation. Additional service under current ownership included replacement of the shift linkage bushings, clutch cable, front engine mount, rear transmission mount, transmission fluid, and engine oil and filter, and the drivetrain has also been fitted with welded skid plates protecting the oil pan and exhaust downpipe.

A gas canister, two sets of keys, a Haynes repair manual, and a binder of maintenance records are included in the sale
