This 1960 Volkswagen Type 2 is a 23-window Deluxe model that was refurbished under previous ownership, and it was acquired by the current owner circa 2020. Finished in red and gray over two-tone gray vinyl, the bus is powered by a 1.2-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. Optioned with an Eberspächer gas heater and a retractable side step, the van is equipped with 15″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps as well as painted bumpers, front Safari windows, a retractable cloth sunroof, and Coco mats. This Type 2 T1 is now offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the owner’s estate with a Volkswagen Classic Certificate, a roof rack, and a clean North Carolina title.

The selling dealer tells us that the body was refinished in the factory shade of Sealing Wax Red (L53) with a Beige Gray (L472) roof under previous ownership. Exterior details include a retractable canvas sunroof in addition to white bumpers and overriders, safari-style front windows, quarter vent windows, dual side mirrors, and pop-out side windows. Steel 15″ wheels with VW-stamped hubcaps are mounted with 6.40-15″ Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners.

The cabin has been refurbished and features two-tone gray upholstery with white piping. Additional equipment includes an overhead ventilation unit, Coco mats, a cabin heater, and gray square-weave cargo area carpeting.

The right-side cargo doors provide access to a rear compartment with two rows of bench seats. The van was optioned with a retractable step below the side door.

A two-spoke steering wheel fronts an 80-mph speedometer, and a Kienzle clock is mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 1,600 miles. The selling dealer states the odometer reading is inaccurate, and the total mileage is unknown.

The 1.2-liter flat-four is said to have been reconditioned during the refurbishment, and it was factory rated at 36 horsepower. An Eberspächer gas heater is mounted in the left side of the engine compartment.

The Volkswagen Classic Certificate lists the VIN, factory colors, and a manufacturing date of August 5, 1960.
