This 1970 Plymouth Superbird is one of 1,920 examples produced for a single model year and was refurbished at some point under previous ownership. It is powered by a 440ci Super Commando V8 linked with a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a Sure-Grip differential and is finished in Alpine White over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a black vinyl roof, a nose cone, flip-up headlamps, a rear wing, Rallye 15″ wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, front bucket seats, a center console, woodgrain interior trim, an AM radio, and Flowmaster mufflers. The car spent time in Maryland and Pennsylvania before being acquired by the late owner in 2021. This Superbird is now offered on dealer consignment by Reserve Motorworks—a BaT Local Partner—on behalf of the owner’s estate with a broadcast sheet, decoding paperwork from Galen Govier, and a Wisconsin title.
Based on Plymouth’s mid-size Road Runner model, the 1970-only Superbird was designed for NASCAR competition, which required Chrysler to produce approximately 2,000 examples for homologation. Finished from the factory in Alpine White (EW1), this car was repainted under prior ownership. The vehicle’s aerodynamic nose cone has satin-black graphics and flip-up headlamps, and other exterior features include fender vents, hood pins, a black vinyl roof, a driver-side mirror, simulated side scoops, a 24″-tall stabilizer wing, “Road Runner” cartoon graphics, black “Plymouth” quarter-panel script, and dual exhaust outlets that exit below the chrome rear bumper.
Rallye 15″ road wheels are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas GT tires measuring F60-15. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and the rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl with silver-colored piping and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Appointments include woodgrain trim, a center console, a Chrysler Solid State AM radio, a heater, floor mats, and seatbelts.
A three-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring and a Road Runner “Beep! Beep!” center cap frames a 150-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 3k miles, and true mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the Plymouth has been displayed as part of a collection since 2021 and has not been driven a notable amount in recent years.
The 440ci Super Commando V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 375 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque when new. Flowmaster mufflers are fitted to the dual exhaust system, and the fuel lines and sending unit were replaced in preparation for the sale, per the seller.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential.
