This 1974 MG MGB GT was disassembled, mounted to a rotisserie, and refurbished in orange over black upholstery before it was sold on BaT in December 2022, and it was acquired by the seller on BaT in October 2023. Subsequent work included the installation of LED headlights and a stainless-steel exhaust system, reverting the ignition system to points and a condenser, fitting a stock-specification shift knob and air cleaners, adding a wood-rimmed steering wheel and battery cut-off switch, and replacing the windshield, rear side windows, and assorted interior and exterior trim. Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the car also has 14″ wire wheels, LED brake lights, a heater, and a Pioneer head unit. This MGB GT is now offered with tools, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, and Connecticut registration in the seller’s name.
The body underwent rust repairs under previous ownership before it was refinished in its current shade of orange. Exterior details include replacement bumpers and side trim, dual mirrors, and pop-out rear windows. LED brake lights were installed under previous ownership in 2023, and work following the seller’s purchase is said to have included replacing the windshield, rear side windows, and assorted trim, along with installing LED headlights. Silver-painted 14″ knock-off wire wheels were mounted with 165-series Blockley tires under current ownership, and replacement chrome-plated two-eared knock-offs were also installed. Work performed between 2022 and 2023 consisted of shortening the front-right spring and installing a rear lowering kit with polyurethane bushings, along with replacing the brake master cylinder, flushing the brake system with silicone fluid, and installing rebuilt rear shocks from Apple Hydraulics.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black cloth with vinyl sides. Further details consist of a heater, a Pioneer head unit, a rear defroster, front headrests, a folding rear bench, and MG-branded rubber floor mats. A stock-specification shift knob was installed under current ownership, along with a replacement center armrest, door panels, door caps, and door pulls. Further work included the installation of a battery cut-off switch behind the driver’s seat, a hinged battery compartment cover, and gas struts beneath the rear cargo area floor.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel was fitted under current ownership, and it fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The speedometer was lubricated, the speedometer cable was replaced, and a leak at the oil pressure gauge was repaired in March 2023. The trip odometer is inoperative. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 1,100 of which were added under current ownership. The previous owner noted that the total mileage is unknown.
The 1.8-liter inline-four underwent an engine-out service in 2023 that consisted of rebuilding the dual SU carburetors, a valve adjustment, repairing a fuel leak, installing a replacement used intake manifold, and replacing the rear main seal, fuel pump, and the gaskets for the oil pan and intake manifold. Following the seller’s purchase, stock-configuration air cleaners and housings were installed, and a previously installed PerTronix electronic ignition setup was replaced with points and a condenser.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Service in 2023 consisted of resealing the front of the transmission and flushing the fluids for the transmission, overdrive unit, and differential, as well as resurfacing the flywheel and replacing the clutch and clutch hydraulic components. A replacement stainless-steel exhaust system was installed under current ownership.
A jack, a knock-off hammer, and a knock-off wrench are included in the sale.
The vehicle is being sold on its Connecticut registration, which serves as an ownership document in Connecticut for vehicles of its age.
