This 1982 Yamaha XT550 was purchased in 2025 by the seller, who believes that it has been registered in Utah since new. Finished in Chappy Red, the bike is powered by an air-cooled 558cc SOHC single paired with a five-speed transmission. It is equipped with street lighting, 21″ and 18″ alloy rims, drum brakes, an air-adjustable fork, adjustable Monocross rear suspension, dual YDIS carburetors, a kick starter, electronic ignition, a high-mount exhaust system, and a side stand. Service in 2024 is said to have included changing the fluids and replacing the tires and the drive chain and sprockets. Per the seller, work during their time with the bike involved refinishing a side panel and the exhaust system along with changing the oil, cleaning the carburetors, and replacing the spark plug. Showing 10k miles, this XT550J is offered at no reserve with a spare exhaust system and a clean Utah title in the seller’s name.

The 3.0-gallon fuel tank and the side panels are finished in Chappy Red with black, gray, and white graphics on the former. The steel frame carries the engine as a stressed member and holds engine oil internally, and other details include high-mounted white plastic fenders, a contoured black seat, folding passenger foot pegs, a skid plate, a side stand, street lighting, and a cargo pouch atop the rear fender. The seller reports reconditioning the left side panel and also notes rust on the subframe.

Wire-spoke wheels with 21″ front and 18″ rear alloy rims laced to drum-brake hubs wear IRC Trail Winner GP100 tires reportedly mounted in 2024. Suspension consists of a 38mm air-assist leading-axle fork in addition to a preload-adjustable monoshock attached to the braced swingarm.

Instrumentation ahead of the cross-braced handlebar consists of an 85-mph speedometer with a trip meter as well as a nonoperational tachometer with inset indicator lights. The right-side turn signals work intermittently. The five-digit odometer shows 10k miles, approximately 500 of which were ridden under current ownership.

The air-cooled 558cc four-stroke single features Yamaha’s Duo Intake System (YDIS) with twin sequentially opening TK carburetors. It also has an overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder, and a refinished dual-header exhaust system with heat shields as well as a kick starter, a compression-release valve, and an oil tank integrated into the frame. The carburetors are said to have been updated to 1983 specification, and the seller reports changing the oil, replacing the spark plug, and cleaning the carburetor.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a replacement drive chain and sprockets.
