This 1962 Chrysler Newport four-door sedan was purchased by the seller’s father in 1988, and it was stored under a cover in a non-climate-controlled structure for 32 of the ensuing 38 years. The car is equipped with a non-running 361ci V8 linked to a push-button TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in two-tone green over green plaid cloth upholstery. Equipment includes power steering and drum brakes along with Torsion-Aire front suspension, a fender-mounted side mirror, an AstraDome instrument cluster, and a push-button AM radio. This Newport project has not been driven since 1994 and is now offered at no reserve with an owner’s manual, a spare brake booster, touch-up paint, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The four-door sedan was the most popular of the Virgil Exner–designed Newport models for 1962, accounting for well over half of the 83,120 units produced. This example is finished in two-tone green and features a fender-mounted mirror, canted quad headlamps, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright body-side moldings, and mini fins with curved taillights. Body-color 14″ steel wheels wearing chrome tri-bar turbine-style covers are mounted with old bias-ply whitewall tires that show sidewall cracks. The car is fitted with power steering as well as independent front suspension that employs longitudinal torsion bars. Power-assisted drum brakes are positioned at all four corners.

The cabin houses bench seats trimmed in green plaid cloth with green vinyl edges; translucent plastic covers were fitted over the seats decades ago, the seller notes. Interior details include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a Golden Tone by Chrysler push-button AM radio, a heater/defroster, front and rear lap belts, black carpeting, and bright doorsill plates.

The plaid door-panel inserts match the seating upholstery.

A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring fronts an AstraDome instrument pod housing a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under the care of the seller’s family prior to the car entering storage.

The 361ci Firebolt V8 came equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. It has not run since the 1990s, according to the seller.

The TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission features push-button shifting. Rust is observed on the underbody, additional photos of which are provided in the gallery.

The vehicle is accompanied by an owner’s manual, a spare brake booster, and a can of Seascape Green touch-up paint.
