This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased by the seller in California in 1983 and was used in the 1985 music video for the Tears for Fears song “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”. It is finished in British Racing Green over Black Ambla vinyl and is powered by a replacement 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a black convertible top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, and a Pioneer CD stereo. Work in 2026 included replacing the valve cover gasket and battery as well as installing a stainless-steel exhaust system. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, vehicle literature, service records, tools, a car cover, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s trust.

Finished from the factory in British Racing Green, the car was repainted under previous ownership and was fitted with a replacement black soft top in 1999. Work in 2026 included replacing the door seals and the windshield washer pump.

Stainless 72-spoke 15” wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and were mounted with Michelin Defender tires in 2015. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The rear shock absorbers were replaced in January 2021.

The 2+2 cabin was refreshed in 1999, including reupholstering the seats in black Ambla vinyl with silver piping and replacing the dash, carpets, trim, and seat hardware. A Pioneer CD stereo is fitted in the center console, and the cabin heater has been removed.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column and frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary readouts. The speedometer was rebuilt during current ownership, and the five-digit odometer shows 75k miles, approximately 41k of which were added under current ownership.

The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six was installed under current ownership and features dual SU HD8 carburetors. The engine features PerTronix electronic ignition and an aluminum oil pan, and it was overhauled and fitted with .020″ over pistons in 2003. The spark plugs, ignition coil, and distributor cap were replaced in January 2021, and the battery and valve cover gasket were replaced in 2026.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The differential fluid was replaced in 2021, and a stainless-steel exhaust system was installed in 2026. The seller notes the 3rd gear inhibitor switch is in need of replacement.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the vehicle’s original specifications and delivery information as well a build date between June 24 and July 7, 1966.
