This 1957 Porsche 356A Carrera is one of a limited number of coupes produced in lightweight GT specification and was sold new in Cuba. It was raced over the next year before being brought to Florida in 1959, and further competition use comprised The Players 200 in Canada in 1961 and the Pomona Road Races in 1963. History remains largely unknown through the early 1990s, when it was acquired by a prior owner and refurbished over the span of approximately fifteen years. The car is powered by a 912-sourced 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Aquamarine Blue over black vinyl and gray corduroy. Features include 15×5.5″ Boyd Coddington alloy wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and fixed-back bucket seats. It was purchased by the current owner in 2026, and work has since involved overhauling the brakes, rebuilding the starter, and replacing the carburetor gaskets, fuel pump, and battery. This 356A Carrera Coupe was purchased by the current owner in 2026 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a copy of the Kardex, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, various awards, and a clean Illinois title.
The Carrera variant was introduced in 1955 with power from a derivation of the four-cam engine designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann for use in Porsche’s competition efforts. In 1957, the Carrera offerings were divided into the GT and GS, or de Luxe, models, with the latter more luxuriously equipped for comfortable road use. Either Carrera specification could be chosen for coupe, cabriolet, or Speedster body styles.
This example came finished from the factory in Aquamarine Blue (5707) and was repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment.
The 15×5.5″ Boyd Coddington alloy wheels are mounted with Pirelli Cinturato tires measuring 175/70. Work in 2026 involved machining the brake drums, re-arching the shoes, and replacing the brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and hoses.
The fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in black vinyl with gray corduroy centers, and interior appointments include a passenger-side grab handle, a Porsche-branded radio blanking plate, and a body-color painted dashboard.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 10 miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 1.6-liter flat-four was sourced from a 912 and installed around 2016. The engine is equipped with dual Solex carburetors, which were cleaned and fitted with replacement gaskets in 2026. The starter was also rebuilt, and the fuel pump and battery were replaced.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, which was reportedly upgraded with later-type 741 internals.
A copy of the Kardex lists the factory color, serial numbers, and a release date of August 9, 1957.
