Vortec-Powered Custom Jeep

This custom Jeep build was completed by the seller in 2019, and it is a CJ-7-style aluminum body joined to a JK Wrangler Unlimited chassis. It is powered by a 6.0-liter V8 with performance modifications and an uprated cooling system, and the driveline is completed by a TCI 4L80E four-speed automatic, an Atlas transfer case, and upgraded axles. The truck rides on a Teraflex long-arm lift kit and Rock Monster beadlock wheels with 40″ Mickey Thompson tires, and further equipment includes a Warn front winch, a black removable hardtop, high-clearance fenders, blue-finished bumpers, Holley Sniper EFI, and off-road lighting. Cab appointments consist of heated bucket seats, a Bluetooth audio receiver, a heater, and a roll bar. Dubbed “CJK8”, the build was covered in an edition of 4BY4 Tech. This modified CJ-7 was acquired by the seller in 1994 and is now offered in Canada with British Columbia registration that describes the vehicle as a 1980 Jeep CJ-7.

The custom aluminum CJ-style body is said to have been provided by Aqualu Industries, and the seller tells us it is mounted to a JK Wrangler Unlimited chassis. The body was recently finished in white, and it has a black removable hardtop with Freedom-style panels as well as a bikini-style soft top, removable half doors with soft uppers, and a steel CJ-specification hood, grille, and tailgate. Other reported equipment includes removable aluminum fenders, removable rear mud flaps, Baja Designs lighting, HID headlights, a receiver hitch, a Warn front winch, and a narrowed Warn rear bumper.

The JK Wrangler chassis accommodates a Teraflex long-arm system with six-inch lift springs, adjustable Fox internal bypass shocks, Fox bump stops, forged track bars, and torsion sway bars. The seller notes that the steering system was updated with a PSC hydraulic ram assist, a Currie heavy-duty steering linkage, a Borgeson steering shaft, an Ididit steering column, and a fluid cooler.

Rock Monster beadlock wheels are mounted with near-new 40×13.50″ Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.

The cab features heated and reclining Mastercraft bucket seats with under-seat storage compartments along with four-point harnesses and a roll cage that also serves as a compressed air reservoir. A switch panel is found ahead of the transmission and transfer case selectors, and further details include a Tuffy locking center console, an overhead CB radio, a Maradyne heater, and a Bluetooth receiver linked to Alpine speakers.

The steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column on a quick-release hub, and instrumentation includes a Holley EFI module, gauges for air pressure and transmission temperature, and a centrally mounted Dakota Digital cluster with a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The replacement odometer shows 8k miles on the build. Total mileage is unknown.

The 6.0-liter Vortec V8 was installed in 2020 and is said to be equipped with Trick Flow ported aluminum cylinder heads, a COMP Cams camshaft, Holley Terminator EFI, 48-lb/hr injectors, Holley exhaust manifolds, and a Walker Quiet-Flow muffler. Cooling is handled by a BeCool aluminum radiator. The seller tells us the engine received a bottom-end refresh in 2025 with Summit Pro billet flat-top pistons, Eagle connecting rods, and a replacement oil pump, water pump, timing chain, roller rockers, bearings, and pushrods. The vehicle is not equipped with catalytic converters.

The seller tells us the 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission is a TCI StreetFighter unit with a manual valve body, and it is linked with an Atlas 4.3:1 transfer case. Further driveline upgrades noted by the seller include 1350 driveshafts, Spicer sealed U-joints, and a Ford high-pinion Dana 60 front axle, 5.38:1 gears, and an Eaton E-Locker front differential along with Reid Racing knuckles, Yukon chromoly axle shafts, and Yukon Hardcore hubs. The rear axle features a Detroit Locker, Yukon axle shafts, and a TMR differential cover. The seller states an uprated Derale transmission cooler was recently installed. Skid plates are fitted to the underbody.

The build details are described in the accompanying issue of 4BY4 Tech.

The vehicle is registered as a 1980 Jeep CJ-7 under the VIN J0M93AH068249, which matches the VIN on the firewall data plate. The aftermarket VIN plate displayed in the gallery has the letter O in place of the first zero. The vehicle is being sold on its British Columbia registration, which serves as an ownership document in the province.
