1980 Volkswagen Scirocco 4-Speed at No Reserve

This 1980 Volkswagen Scirocco was initially sold through Route 44 Volkswagen in Canton, Connecticut, and reportedly spent time in Louisiana and Arizona before the seller’s purchase in 2015. Repainted in black over red upholstery, the car is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes Bosch fuel injection, a Neuspeed front strut tower brace, H&R springs, Bilstein dampers, front disc brakes, 15″ Rota alloy wheels, a front lip spoiler, a cabin heater, crank windows, and a Bluetooth-capable JVC stereo. The seller is the former owner of New Milford Volkswagen in Connecticut, and tells us the engine was overhauled and the clutch was replaced within the last six years. This Scirocco shows 134k miles and is offered at no reserve with a Connecticut registration.

This first-generation Scirocco left the factory finished in Cosmos Silver Metallic (LK5Y) and the seller relays that the prior owner had stated the car was repainted black in the late 1980s. Exterior details include a FOHA front lip spoiler, fog lights, quad headlights, H4 high-beams, remote-controlled side mirrors, an integrated rear spoiler, and front and rear mud flaps. The rear window wiper does not work. The seller notes some areas of corrosion, which are depicted in the gallery and include a spot on the lower driver’s door, the front portions of the inner fenders, and near the mounting areas of the rear axle on the inner rockers along with a repaired spot on the driver’s floorpan.

Silver-finished 15″ Rota R8 alloy wheels with polished lips are mounted with Yokohama Advan tires. The suspension features a Neuspeed front strut tower brace along with H&R 1.25″ lowering springs paired with Bilstein dampers. Braking is handled by front discs featuring ventilated rotors from a GTI, joined by factory rear drums.

The front bucket seats and folding rear bench are trimmed in red upholstery. Appointments include a cabin heater, all-weather floor mats, crank windows, and a JVC stereo with Bluetooth connectivity linked to aftermarket speakers. Cracks are visible on the dashboard.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer along with gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Auxiliary gauges for oil temperature and voltage are housed in the center stack. The six-digit odometer shows 134k miles.

The 1.6-liter inline-four was factory rated at 74 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque and features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Work since 2020 is said to have included replacing the following components:

  • Clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate
  • Rear main seal
  • Connecting rod bearings
  • Crankshaft, intermediate shaft, and camshaft seals
  • Cylinder head gasket
  • Valve stem seals
  • Timing belt and tensioner
  • Radiator
  • Water pump
  • Ignition condenser, points, and wires
  • Spark plugs

The most recent oil change was performed in May 2026. A compression test was also completed during current ownership, per the seller.

Additional photos of the undercarriage are shown in the gallery.

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold with its transferable Connecticut registration that carries an “Antique” entry in the Registered Usage section.
