52-Years-Owned 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL 4-Speed

This 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL was acquired by the owner in 1974, and a 2010 refurbishment included repainting the body, rebuilding the engine, and replacing the carpets. It is finished in Light Ivory over burgundy leather and is powered by a 2.3-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a brown convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, dual side mirrors, and a heater. This W113 SL is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in California with an owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and a North Dakota title.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example left the factory finished in Light Ivory (670). Work during the 2010 refurbishment included soda blasting the body, performing metalwork, and repainting the exterior and engine compartment. Additional work involved rechroming the grille surround and replacing the front and rear bumpers, door weatherstripping, and various exterior seals. Exterior features include a brown convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, dual side mirrors, and US-specification headlights.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with 205/75 Hankook Optimo tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The cabin is upholstered in burgundy and the carpets were replaced in 2010. Interior appointments include an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and a heater.

The aftermarket steering wheel features has a wood rim and three horn buttons. It frames a VDO 220-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 33k kilometers (~20k miles), approximately 30k of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.3-liter M127 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection. The engine was reportedly rebuilt by Metric Motors in 2010. The ignition switch was replaced in September 2018, and the oil was changed in August 2026.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
