1979 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

This 1979 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce is said to have spent a decade in storage before being acquired by the seller in 2024 and was subsequently refurbished as part of a project completed in 2025. Work involved a repaint in dark blue, an interior re-trim in brown leather, rebuilds of the 2.0L twin-cam inline-four and five-speed manual transmission, and more as detailed below. The car rides on refinished 14″ Turbina-style wheels and wears a replacement black canvas convertible top as well as a Series 3–sourced grille and wraparound bumpers. Inside, a wood-rimmed steering wheel is accompanied by Jaeger instrumentation along with a Bluetooth-capable aftermarket stereo. The engine breathes through retrofitted Weber carburetors and is fitted with a PerTronix electronic ignition in addition to a stainless-steel exhaust header, while the transmission is linked with a limited-slip differential. This S2 Spider is now offered at no reserve with a collection of vehicle literature and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

Formerly finished in black, the car’s Pininfarina bodywork was stripped and repainted in its current dark blue finish as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Inside, a previously installed roll bar and bucket seats were removed and the interior surfaces were sanded and repainted. The 2.0L twin-cam inline-four was disassembled, the cylinder head was shaved, the intake openings were machined, and the pistons and connecting rods were replaced during the engine rebuild, while the five-speed manual transmission was also disassembled and rebuilt in the course of the project.

The car wears a retrofitted Series 3 grille and wraparound bumpers as well as a replacement black canvas convertible top. LED bulbs have been added for the headlights and running lights, and polished stainless-steel windshield wiper arms and side mirror housings have been installed. The seller notes that the following exterior parts and components were also fitted under their ownership:

  • Turn signal flasher module
  • Vent-window latches
  • Windshield and pillar moldings
  • Hood release, cable, and emergency back-up
  • Trunk release and emergency back-up
  • Trunk rain rail
  • Spare tire well

The 14″ Turbina-style cast-alloy wheels are wrapped with 195/70 Falken Pro G5 Touring tires, while braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs. Work in the course of the refurbishment is noted to have involved refurbishing the wheels, mounting the tires, and rebuilding the brake calipers as well as replacing the brake master cylinder, lines, pads, and rotors.

The refreshed cabin features front bucket seats trimmed in brown leather upholstery complemented by color-coordinated door panels. A Bluetooth-capable BOSS head unit is accompanied by a remote control and connected to four aftermarket speakers. The seller notes that the electrical system was rewired, though the blower fan for the heater does not work. They also report that the following interior components were changed as part of the interior refresh:

  • Driver’s seat bottom and hardware
  • Seat pans
  • Door panels and seals
  • Door and window handles
  • Dash, glovebox door, and center console
  • Shift boot
  • Parking brake mechanism and cover
  • Sun visors
  • Rear-view mirror
  • Courtesy lighting
  • Soft top cover
  • Sound and heat insulation
  • Carpets

The wood-rimmed steering wheel is paired with a dashboard-mounted gearshift lever topped by a wood knob. The dual binnacle gauge cluster houses Jaeger instrumentation including an 8k-rpm tachometer alongside an 85-mph speedometer, while gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature are located in the center stack. The six-digit odometer shows 124k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The 2.0L twin-cam inline-four was factory equipped with SPICA mechanical fuel injection. Dual Weber 40 DCOE 80/81 carburetors with 60mm velocity stacks were retrofitted in the course of the engine work along with a PerTronix electronic ignition, and a custom exhaust system with a stainless-steel header was also added to complement a previously installed stinger-style exhaust. The starter, alternator, radiator, and oil pump were reportedly refurbished in the course of the project, and the seller tells us that the following parts and components were also changed:

  • Timing chains
  • Valves, valve seats, and valve shims
  • Gaskets and seals
  • Cylinder sleeves
  • Crankshaft and connecting rod bearings
  • Throttle assembly
  • Spark plugs and wires
  • Alternator belt and pulley
  • Thermostat
  • Radiator fan
  • Water pump
  • Battery and tray
  • Engine mounts
  • Fuel tank, pump, sending unit, and lines

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller tells us that the following parts and components were replaced at the time of the transmission rebuild:

  • Dog ring and synchros
  • Transmission mount
  • Clutch plate and throwout bearing
  • Clutch line and hydraulic cylinders
  • Driveshaft center support bearing, flex disc, and U-joints
  • Transmission and differential fluids

A collection of vehicle literature is included in the sale.
