This 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was acquired by the owner’s father around 1965. Following an engine rebuild in 2011, the car was sent to Frank Zucchi Restoration where it began long-term cosmetic work. The owner inherited the vehicle in 2015, and the cosmetic work was completed in 2025. The car was then sent to The SL Werke Shop in Benicia, California, to be mechanically refreshed after sitting for 13 years. It is powered by a replacement 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Fire Engine Red over cream leather. Equipment includes a white removable hardtop with a sliding sunroof, 13″ steel wheels with body-color hubcaps, dual Weber 40 DCOE carburetors, a Blaupunkt radio, and lap belts. This 190SL is now offered by a BaT Local Partner on behalf of the owner with a data card, service records dating to 1963, refurbishment invoices, and a California title.

The car was finished from the factory in Fire Engine Red and was repainted between 2015 and 2025. The car is equipped with a removable large-window hardtop featuring a sliding sunroof. It is not equipped with a convertible top. The hardtop weatherstripping, A-pillar seals, rear window gasket, and windshield gasket were replaced in 2025.

The 13″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and hubcaps with body-color accents, and they are mounted with 185/80 Maxxis MA-1 whitewall tires. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes. The steering box was rebuilt in December 2025.

The cabin was reupholstered during the restoration and features low-back bucket seats trimmed in cream leather along with a color-coordinated dashboard pad and door panels. Appointments include a Blaupunkt tape deck, lap belts, an analog clock, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror.

The two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles. The speedometer cable was repaired in 2025, and total mileage is unknown.

The short block of the 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was replaced by European Auto Repair in San Rafael in 2011, and the cylinder head was resurfaced and a valve job was performed at that time. The engine is equipped with aftermarket dual Weber 40 DCOE carburetors. Work in December 2025 included rebuilding the carburetors, performing a coolant flush, and replacing the fuel lines and turn signal relay.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. The clutch was adjusted and the transmission and differential fluids were flushed in December 2025. An undercoating was applied to the underside and wheel wells in July 2025. Photos of the condition can be found in the gallery.

The sale includes a tonneau cover, a tool roll, and refurbishment records as well as spare and removed parts.

The California uses the VIN 190SL021078C, which appends a C to the type and chassis number.
