“What shall we create here? Where shall we go?” Mubi unveiled their official trailer for the film Coward, a Belgian WWI drama made by the award-winning Belgian filmmaker Lukas Dhont as his third feature so far. It first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival to many rave reviews (here’s mine) before playing at other fests this year including Toronto, Hamburg, Melbourne & more. Set at the height of World War I (aka The Great War) right in the shadows of the Belgian trenches, Coward unfolds as an epic, intimate journey of youthful self-discovery through love, art, and survival. Coward beautifully explores the fine line between fear and fortitude for soldiers in search of a promised glory, ultimately asking – when the world demands brutality, is walking away for love the truest act of bravery? Starring Valentin Campagne as Francis and Emmanuel Macchia as Pierre – two of the most ravishing performances of 2026. Dhont’s Coward, a tale of tenderness and devotion set against the backdrop of WWI, arrives in theaters starting in December and playing through January/February. One of my favorites from 2026 and a film I highly recommend to anyone adventurous enough to watch a gay love story war movie that will make your heart beat faster. Have a look. // Continue Reading ›
