This 1987 Shelby Lancer is one of approximately 800 examples produced for the model year and is said to have been purchased new by the current owner’s father before being acquired from him in 2006. Now showing 1,100 miles, the car is finished in Graphic Red over gray leather upholstery and is powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four paired with an optional three-speed automatic transaxle. Features include Shelby Lancer graphics, Marchal fog lights, a trunk lid spoiler, 15″ basketweave wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. This Shelby Lancer is now offered on dealer consignment with a window sticker, a Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle, 1988-dated documentation, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a Kansas title.

Based on the contemporary Dodge Lancer, the 1987 Shelby Lancer was built by Shelby Automobiles at their Whittier, California, facility before Chrysler began production of the Dodge Lancer Shelby the following year. Each example was finished in Graphic Red with Shelby Lancer graphics on the trunk lid and door panels. Additional details include a functional hood vent, a front air dam, Marchal fog lights, body-color ground effects, and a Shelby emblem positioned below the decklid spoiler. Cracks in the paint are noted on the hood, and the weather stripping on the rear quarter windows is splitting.

The basketweave 15″ wheels wear Shelby-logo center caps and are mounted with 205/60 Mastercraft Touring LSR tires. The car rides on a sport-tuned suspension system and is equipped with power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in gray leather upholstery that extends to the door panels. The air conditioning system is noted to have been converted to utilize R134a refrigerant, and appointments include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a center console, and power windows and locks. The Pioneer head unit works intermittently.

A plaque on the passenger side of the dashboard identifies this Shelby Lancer as #590.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel features a Carroll Shelby signature and frames a 125-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline alongside auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 1,100 miles.

The turbocharged and intercooled 2.2-liter Turbo II inline-four features a Shelby-branded valve cover and was factory rated at 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.

Power is sent to the front wheels through an optional TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transaxle.

The window sticker shows initial delivery to Gesswein Motors of Milbank, South Dakota, and lists factory colors, equipment, options, and a total of $18,660. A copy of the Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle, an Advance Dealer Shipping Notice, 1988-dated documentation, and manufacturer’s literature will accompany the vehicle.
The Carfax report is free of accidents or other reported damage.
The Kansas title displays “Antique” in both the Vehicle Record Notations and Vehicle Brands sections.
