427-Powered 1966 Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon 4-Speed

This 1966 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon is said to have been acquired by the current owner in 2005, and subsequent refurbishment work included installing a 427ci V8 and refinishing the car in gold with wood paneling. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a 12-bolt rear axle, a Holley HP 750-cfm carburetor, an MSD electronic ignition system, Kooks dual exhaust, 15″ Rally-style wheels, a front sway bar, a tilt steering column, and an AM radio. This Caprice wagon is now offered on dealer consignment in Connecticut, with an engine build sheet and a transferable New York registration.

The car left the factory finished in Lemonwood Yellow (Y) and was refinished in gold with wood paneling in the 2000s. Equipment includes bright trim, a roof-rack, a power-operated rear window, and chrome-finished bumpers. A crack in the paneling on the tailgate is shown in the gallery.

Silver-finished 15″ Rally-style steel wheels feature chrome center caps and trim rings and are mounted with 235/70 front and 255/70 rear BFGoodrich redline tires, which the selling dealer notes were recently installed. The car is equipped with coil-spring suspension as well as front and rear sway bars, and stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners.

The cabin is trimmed in black, and interior appointments include an AM radio, a floor-mounted shifter, dash-mounted clock, and a cabin heater.

The woodgrain steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a fuel-level gauge. A pod housing Stewart-Warner Green Line auxiliary gauges is mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, approximately 20 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 427ci V8 was assembled in March 2002. According to the included build sheet, it has custom Wiseco 0.070″-over domed pistons, an 11.25:1 compression ratio, Sealed Power rings, Federal-Mogul bearings, and an Isky mechanical camshaft. The cylinder heads feature 109cc combustion chambers, and additional equipment includes a Holley HP 750-cfm four-barrel carburetor atop an aluminum intake manifold as well as an MSD electronic ignition system. The selling dealer notes that various fluids were changed ahead of the sale.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Muncie four-speed manual transmission, a replacement Ram clutch, and a 12-bolt rear differential with 3.90:1 gearing. A custom Kooks stainless-steel dual exhaust system is fitted.
