1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe

This 1939 Ford Model 91A Deluxe coupe remained with a previous owner for 54 years before being purchased by the current owner on BaT in November 2024. The car was refurbished around 2010, with work including refinishing the car in green and a rebuild of the 221ci flathead V8. Equipment includes a three-speed manual transmission, tan cloth interior upholstery, body-color artillery-style steel wheels, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, a 12-volt electrical system, an electric fuel pump, a spin-on oil filter, turn signals, dual horns, and dual side mirrors. This 1939 Ford coupe is now offered on dealer consignment by a BaT Local Partner with recent records and a Pennsylvania title.

The coupe body is said to have been removed from the frame in 2010 and refinished in green. Features include dual horns, dual side mirrors, teardrop-shaped headlights, dual windshield wipers, 12-volt electric turn signals, and rubber-covered running boards. The windshield wipers and front air scoop do not work. There are chips on the driver’s door near the handle along with flaws on the passenger side and clear coat failure on the left-rear fender.

Body-color 16″ artillery-style steel wheels are mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires dating to 2007. The 1939 model year was Ford’s first to feature four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. The front wheel cylinders were replaced in October 2024. In October 2026, the front shocks, brake fluid, and the left-rear wheel cylinder and brake shoes were replaced. Damaged axle threads were also repaired, and the parking brake was adjusted. The rear shocks were replaced in preparation for the sale.

The cabin features bench seating upholstered in tan cloth.

The wrapped banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 29k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The fuel-level and battery gauges do not work, and the speedometer is inaccurate.

The 221ci flathead V8 was factory rated at 85 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque and was reportedly rebuilt around 2010. Service in October 2024 included a rebuild of the generator and carburetor. The car features a 12-volt electric system with an electric fuel pump as well as a spin-on oil filter. The engine mounts were replaced in October 2026, at which time the following issues were noted:

  • The engine is seeping fluid
  • The exhaust contacts the driver-side frame
  • The engine oil is dark and low
  • The oil-bath air filter needs cleaning and re-oiling
  • The battery hold-down bracket and negative ground strap need replacement

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission, the fluid for which was drained and refilled in October 2026. The transmission mounts were also replaced at that time. Leaks are noted from the gearbox and differential.

The Pennsylvania title carries an Antique Vehicle brand.
