Samsung’s anti-snooping phone screen is getting an upgrade, and it won’t stay exclusive to the priciest model. SamMobile says in an exclusive report that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will both get an improved Privacy Display, along with brighter screens.
If you haven’t used it, Privacy Display debuted on the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. It narrows what the screen shows so the display looks dark to someone peeking from the side. Someone sitting next to you sees a dimmed screen, while you still see it normally. You can switch it on for individual apps, which comes in handy on a crowded train or bus, or when you’re checking a banking app in a waiting room.
A Pro model joins the club
The change that matters most is who gets it. The S26 Ultra was the only Galaxy S phone with Privacy Display. Now the Galaxy S27 Pro, a new model, would become the first non-Ultra Galaxy S phone to offer it.
The regular Galaxy S27 and S27+ are not expected to get the feature. That settles a back-and-forth in the rumor mill, since earlier reports claimed every S27 model would have it.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of this. It hasn’t even confirmed that a Galaxy S27 Pro exists, so everything here comes from sources and not from the company.
Why brighter matters
SamMobile doesn’t give exact brightness numbers, but a brighter screen should make privacy mode easier to live with, especially in sunlight. Privacy screens tend to cost some brightness, because the display has to hold back light that would otherwise reach people at the sides. A brighter panel helps make up for that. Samsung has also been tipped to improve how sharp the screen looks with privacy turned on, though those details are less certain.
The feature is also spreading beyond Samsung. Xiaomi’s new 18 Pro series comes with its own privacy screen, so Samsung has competition on this one. Samsung hasn’t said how much brighter the new screens will be or when it plans to announce the phones. Both Galaxy S27 models are expected to arrive in early 2027, and a price hasn’t been announced.
