WhatsApp’s Major New Update Lets Non-Users RSVP to Events

WhatsApp recently unveiled that it’s now rolling out a new update for its Events feature, which simplifies planning for group meet-ups and other events. Part of the company’s official statement reads:

We heard from people that they want a one-stop shop to create and coordinate events, including inviting friends who aren’t on WhatsApp. Whether it’s family, new friends, or your closest circle, the best moments happen when you’re together in person.

The update comes with web-based RSVPs, allowing users to share event links with contacts who do not have their own WhatsApp account. That said though, this allows non-users to view details and confirm their attendance directly through a browser without needing to download the app.

To help users manage these gatherings, WhatsApp is also launching a centralized Events Home, which brings together all past and upcoming events in one place, allowing hosts to create customized invites, set custom reminders, manage plus-ones, and keep an eye on RSVPs.

WhatsApp says that Personal phone numbers remain hidden from unfamiliar guests, and individuals without a WhatsApp account will only be able to view the event address after submitting an RSVP. Personal messages and calls will continue to be protected by end-to-end encryption.

The updated feature is currently rolling out worldwide and will become available to all users over the coming weeks.
