1971 Porsche 914 Race Car Project at No Reserve

This 1971 Porsche 914 was built into a race car in the 1980s at Stuttgart West near Denver, Colorado, and it was campaigned in SCCA GT2-class and PCA events throughout the western US by its longtime owner, Raleigh Gardenhire. The car has been stored for many years and features a low-profile windscreen, a roll cage, and widebody fender flares along with BBS 15” wheels, Bilstein shocks, Bremtek brake calipers, an ATL fuel cell, a MOMO steering wheel, and a Tilton pedal assembly. The drivetrain has been removed, and a magnesium engine case and a Type 901 five-speed gearbox are included in the sale. This modified 914 roller is now offered at no reserve by the seller on the owner’s behalf in Colorado with historical documents and a bill of sale.

Included documentation denotes Raleigh Gardenhire’s results, including a win in March 1985 in GT-2 along with other podium finishes.

The car has widebody flares secured with Dzus fasteners and wears a back and silver #73 livery. The windshield frame has been replaced with a contoured windscreen, and other details include a front air dam, a decklid spoiler, and a Sebring-style mirror. Paint chips and other imperfections around the car can be viewed in the image gallery below.

BBS 15” multi-piece wheels have gold centers and are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle slicks. The chassis has been reinforced with a tubular steel roll cage, and Bilstein dampers have been installed along with Bremtek brake calipers at all four corners.

The cabin is protected by a roll bar and houses a single racing seat with a black vinyl cover and a Crow harness that was manufactured in June 2003. A fire-suppression system and a brake-bias adjuster have also been added.

The MOMO steering wheel has a Porsche center cap and sits ahead of an MSD tachometer flanked by Stewart-Warner gauges for oil pressure and oil temperature. A variety of supplementary gauges are mounted in a custom panel to the right. The car does not have an odometer.

The front trunk houses an ATL fuel cell, and a Tilton pedal assembly has been installed.

The engine and transaxle mounts have been reconfigured to ease removal and installation of the drivetrain. A CM electric fuel pump is connected to supply lines with AN fittings. Drive axles remain in place.

A magnesium flat-six case will accompany the car.

A Type 911/01 five-speed manual transaxle is secured within a tubular steel frame.

The vehicle is not legal for road use and carries no title or registration. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
