Along with the much-anticipated arrival of Google’s Android 17 update today, the company also announced the roll-out of Wear OS 7 for select Pixel Watch models, which comes with new features, Gemini tools, and improvements to overall performance. Google adds that the update also improves battery endurance for Pixel Watches, at least on paper.

According to Google, Wear OS 7 can deliver up to a 10% improvement in battery life for most users upgrading from Wear OS 6; the update also comes with Android Live Updates, which brings real-time, glanceable information directly to the wrist. This lets users keep an eye on ongoing events, such as live sports scores, food delivery arrival times from apps, and even active workout progress without needing to open dedicated applications.

Wear OS 7 also improves integration with connected ecosystems, including earbuds and upcoming smart eyewear, such as being able to instantly review photos captured on smart glasses directly on a watch face. The update also lets users control playback across headphones and home speakers, and transition audio between devices using the native media output switcher.

Later this year, select Wear OS 7 devices will receive several Gemini AI features, which includes “Create My Widget” for custom dashboards using natural language commands. Gemini will also power multi-step app automation to execute complex tasks from the wrist, like booking fitness classes or ordering food.

The AI rollout will also bring the Neural Expressive design language and a Personal Intelligence feature, which can hook up with Google apps like Gmail and Search to provide more contextualized and proactive suggestions based on user history.
