This 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible was refurbished under previous ownership, with work that included installing a 2,276cc flat-four, Pertronix electronic ignition, a pair of Weber 44 IDF carburetors, a Sidewinder exhaust, and a replacement four-speed manual transaxle as well as repainting the body in black and reupholstering the seats in two-tone beige. Additional features include a black soft top, aftermarket headlights, chrome-finished bumpers, four-wheel disc brakes, 15” wheels, a Grant steering wheel, a Gene Berg shifter, Stewart-Warner instrumentation, and a retro-style digital media receiver. The car was previously sold on BaT in February 2023, and it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2025. This Super Beetle convertible is offered with refurbishment records and a Florida title.
The refurbishment under previous ownership is said to have involved disassembling the car, repainting the body in black, and powder-coating the pan and various suspension components. Exterior details include a vented decklid, aftermarket headlights, fender-mounted indicators, dual mirrors, Karmann badging, running boards, a black soft top with a color-coordinated boot, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders.
Chrome-finished 15” wheels wearing VW-stamped hubcaps are mounted with 195/65 Goodyear Assurance tires. A non-matching spare mounted with an older tire is stored in the front trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes, and the suspension is equipped with a front sway bar, front lowering springs, Bilstein rear shocks, and polyurethane bushings.
The front bucket seats and the rear bench seat were reupholstered in beige vinyl with tweed cloth inserts as part of the refurbishment, and they are joined by color-coordinated door panels. Additional appointments include a Gene Berg shifter, gray carpets, Coco floor mats, lap belts, and a retro-style digital media receiver.
The Grant steering wheel fronts a 100-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge as well as Stewart-Warner instrumentation consisting of an 8k-rpm tachometer and gauges for oil pressure and temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 2,500 miles, which is said to represent the distance traveled since the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement air-cooled 2,276cc flat-four features a DPR crankshaft, SCAT connecting rods, an Engle FK8 camshaft, a Schadek 26mm oil pump, PerTronix electronic ignition, and dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors as well as ported and polished cylinder heads with stainless-steel valves, dual valve springs, and SCAT rocker arms. The car is also equipped with a stainless-steel Sidewinder exhaust.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement “Freeway Flyer” four-speed manual transaxle.
