1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta TI

This 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta TI was specified from the factory in Blu Elvezia and built in October 1960 before being delivered to Lauria, Italy, in January 1961. The car is believed to have spent time in storage at an Alfa Romeo dealer in Sala Consilina before being brought to the US circa 2015. It was acquired out of California by the seller on BaT in November 2016 and subsequently relocated to Florida. Finished in blue over gray cloth upholstery, the sedan is powered by a 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four fitted with a single Solex carburetor and mated to a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. It rides on 15″ Fergat-style steel wheels coupled with finned drum brakes at all four corners and is further equipped with bench seating, a heater, and Jaeger instrumentation. This Giulietta TI is now offered with an Alfa Romeo Certificate of Origin, prior Italian registration documents, and a clean Florida title listing it as a 1960 model.

Introduced in the summer of 1957, the TI (Turismo Internazionale) was marketed as a high-performance version of the Giulietta berlina featuring a more powerful engine as well as various exterior and interior enhancements. The Bertone-styled bodywork of this example left the factory finished in Blu Elvezia (315) and was repainted at some point under previous ownership. Further details include recessed headlights, dual side mirrors, and bumpers with overriders.

The 15″ Fergat-style steel wheels feature Alfa Romeo–branded hubcaps and are mounted with 175-width tires. Stopping power is provided by finned drums at each corner. The braking system was reportedly overhauled prior to the November 2016 BaT auction, and the tires have since been changed.

The cabin houses two rows of bench seating trimmed in gray patterned cloth and contrasting vinyl, which extends to the door panels. The dash wears a Giulietta TI plaque, and further details include an ivory headliner, gray carpets, and rubberized floor mats along with a heater, lockable glovebox, and hand-crank windows.

A two-spoke steering wheel is paired with a column-mounted shifter, which was specified for Italian-market TI cars to permit seating for six. Upgraded Jaeger instrumentation for the TI included a horizontal-sweep 180-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 90k kilometers (~56k miles), approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership.

The 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four in the TI received a larger Solex twin-choke carburetor as well as an increased compression ratio to achieve a factory-rated 64 horsepower. Work prior to the November 2016 BaT auction is noted to have involved rebuilding the carburetors, starter, and water pump. The carburetor is not fitted with an air cleaner.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work under previous ownership prior to 2016 is noted to have involved overhauling the fuel tank, as well as installing a stainless-steel exhaust system. The seller notes that one of the exhaust hangers is broken.

Chassis number AR126587 appears on the firewall, though the number plate in the engine bay is unstamped.

The Certificato Di Origine from Alfa Romeo Classiche shows a production date of October 4, 1960, and lists the factory exterior color as well as delivery to Lauria, Italy, on January 17, 1961.

A set of four 175/65 Thunderer tires is also included in the sale.
