1971 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster

This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was acquired by the current owners in March 1978 and subsequently underwent a repaint in red as well as an interior re-trim in black leather as part of a refurbishment completed from 2012 to 2014. The car rides on 15″ wire wheels and features a black soft top, open headlights, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Power is from a 4.2-liter inline-six that breathes through dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a limited-slip differential. This XKE roadster is now offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the owners with a binder of records, a collection of accessories, and a clean Nebraska title.

The car is believed to have left the factory finished in Regency Red and was repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed from 2012 to 2014. A replacement black soft top was installed and the exterior brightwork is noted to have been polished at the time of the paintwork. A louvered clamshell hood, sealed-beam open headlights, wraparound bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets are further details. The selling dealer notes that the window washers are inoperative.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-width Michelin tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The tires were mounted in 2012, and the braking system was reportedly rebuilt in 2017.

The cabin features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in black leather. The seats are accompanied by a color-coordinated dash, center console, door panels, and carpets. Further interior appointments include a Philips push-button radio, a locking glovebox, and a heater. The radio was reportedly refurbished in 2012. The car is equipped with air conditioning, though the system requires service.

The drilled-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 74k miles.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 245 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The car is further equipped with a stainless-steel exhaust system.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch master cylinder was replaced in 2017. The selling dealer notes difficulty engaging reverse.

A protective front cover and a collection of tools will accompany the car.
