This 1977 Yamaha YZ80 reportedly remained in one family until it was acquired by the current owner in 2025 and thereafter refurbished. Work included repainting the fuel tank in Competition Yellow with black and white accents, powder-coating the frame and swingarm black, refreshing the 79cc two-stroke single, polishing the chrome rims, overhauling the suspension and brakes, and replacing the fenders, tires, clutch and plates, controls, chrome handlebar, carburetor, wheel wire spokes, and more. Shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission, and additional features include a kick starter, a black solo seat, number plates, and a side stand. This YZ80 is now offered at no reserve with an Iowa off-highway title in the seller’s name.

The double-cradle frame, swingarm, and side stand were powder-coated black, the fuel tank was refinished in Yamaha Competition Yellow following bodywork to remove a dent, and replacement yellow DC Plastics fenders were installed along with reproduction black and white graphics. Additional details include a black vinyl solo seat, a rear grab frame loop, and front and side number plates. The seller notes the folding serrated foot pegs were powder-coated black.

The wire-spoke wheels, measuring 16″ up front and 14″ out back, received replacement spokes and dust covers and were mounted with replacement tubes, rim strips, and knobby Kenda Washougal tires. The fork was overhauled, along with the rear KYB shocks. Braking is from drums at both ends, and the hubs were powder-coated black with replacement hardware and shoes. A second set of shocks is included in the sale that are stiffer and rated for a 250cc motorcycle, per the seller.

The replacement chrome cross-braced handlebar carries a replacement Yamaha-branded pad as well as replacement grips, levers, control cables, twist-grip throttle, and ignition switch. The YZ80 was not equipped with an odometer or other instrumentation, therefore total mileage is unknown.

The 79cc two-stroke single received a 0.50mm overbore and a replacement Wiseco piston, per the seller, along with a repaint and a replacement carburetor, ignition coil, air filter, and wiring harness. Additional details include a kick starter, Yamaha Torque Induction, and an upswept expansion-chamber exhaust system, which was refinished in matte black with a perforated heat shield.

The engine number is shown above, and the frame VIN stamp sequence 1T0015484 is captured in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a five-speed manual transmission and a drive chain with a lower guard. The drive chain, clutch, springs, and plates were replaced.

Photos documenting the refurbishment under current ownership are shown in the gallery.
