Porsche 356 Convertible D Replica

This replica of a Porsche 356 Convertible D is said to have been constructed over the course of 18 years, and it was acquired by the current owner in 2015. Powered by a modified air-cooled 1,835cc flat-four linked with a four-speed manual transaxle, the car is finished in red over black vinyl upholstery. A heavy-duty clutch, shift forks, and transaxle spider gears are said to have been installed, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, a tonneau cover, front disc brakes, chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels, Dell’Orto-branded air cleaner covers, lap belts, and a CD stereo. This 356 replica is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with partial service records, a car cover, and a reconstructed Utah title listing the car as a 1989 ASVE REPLICA UUU.

The fiberglass bodywork is finished in red gelcoat, and exterior equipment includes a black removable soft top, a tonneau cover, and dual side mirrors. The selling dealer tells us that the manufacturer of the fiberglass body is unknown. The rear decklid struts are seized, and close-up photos of exterior imperfections are viewable in the gallery below.

Chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels feature hubcaps and are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping is provided by front discs and rear drums. The brake fluid was flushed, and the steering knuckles and suspension were lubricated in 2026.

The cockpit features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl, and interior appointments include a CD stereo, under-dashboard speakers, lap seatbelts, and a rearview mirror.

An aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 150-mph VDO speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows under 2,900 miles.

The selling dealer tells us that the air-cooled 1,835cc flat-four has been modified with a stock-stroke counterweighted crankshaft with heavy-duty connecting rods as well as big-bore 96mm Mahle pistons and cylinders, a high-performance street camshaft, large-valve dual-port cylinder heads, revised rocker components, a high-volume oil pump, a spin-on oil filter adaptor, finned aluminum valve covers, and tubular headers. Maintenance in July 2026 consisted of an oil change, a valve adjustment, cleaning the fuel system, adjusting the carburetors, and replacing the battery and fuel hose.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The selling dealer was told that a heavy-duty clutch, shift forks, and transaxle spider gears were installed during the build. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.

Included in the sale are 356 literature, wiring diagrams, and a car cover.

The Utah title carries a “Reconstructed” notation and indicates “the vehicle has been materially altered.” It also notes the “vehicle is exempt from odometer requirements.
