1979 Ferrari 308 GT4

This 1979 Ferrari 308 GT4 left the factory in December 1979 as the last 308 GT4 built for the US market. Chassis 15448 was sold new at Ferrari of Santa Monica in California on September 15, 1980, and is believed to have remained in the state before being acquired by the seller in 2002 and relocated to Texas. Finished in Rosso Chiaro over Nero Connolly leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter V8 linked to a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 14″ Campagnolo alloy wheels and is further equipped with retractable headlights, a sunroof, a MOMO steering wheel, a gated shifter, and an Alpine head unit connected to ADS speakers. Service since 2023 has involved rebuilding and tuning the quad Weber carburetors, replacing the coolant lines, and recharging the air conditioning system. This 308 GT4 is now offered with an owner’s manual, service records dating to 1980, a tool kit, a jack bag, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The Bertone-designed bodywork is finished in Rosso Chiaro and features retractable headlights, side air intakes, and impact bumpers. Photos of paint meter readings are provided in the gallery below.

Silver-finished 14×7.5″ Campagnolo five-spoke wheels with Ferrari-logo center caps are mounted with 205/70 Yokohama A-321VR tires. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at each corner.

The 2+2 cabin houses front bucket seats and a contoured rear bench trimmed in Nero Connolly leather, and color-coordinated trim extends to the dash, center console, and door panels. An Alpine AM/FM/CD head unit is connected to ADS 300 speakers, and other appointments include a sunroof, power windows, and front shoulder belts. The air conditioning system was recharged in 2023.

The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel features a prancing horse horn button and is paired with a dogleg-pattern gated shifter. Veglia Borletti instrumentation consists of a 180-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a tachometer with a 7,750-rpm redline as well as auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer generator was replaced in January 1984, and a January 2003 record notes that the speedometer was not receiving a speed signal.

The transverse 2.9-liter DOHC V8 was equipped with quad Weber 40 DCNF carburetors for a factory rating of 215 horsepower. Service in 2023 included rebuilding and tuning the carburetors as well as replacing the coolant lines and battery. The factory emissions-control equipment has been removed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential.

An owner’s manual and a collection of records will accompany the car along with a tool kit and a jack bag.
