This 1940 Packard Super Eight One-Sixty is a convertible coupe that is said to have undergone a refurbishment under previous ownership, and it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2025. The car is finished in cream over brown leather upholstery, and power comes from a 356ci L-head inline-eight that breathes through a single downdraft carburetor and is paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a secondary electric fuel pump, hydraulic drum brakes, coil-sprung independent front suspension, 16” wheels with chrome covers, dual side-mount spares, a beige convertible top, a Goddess of Speed mascot, yellow-lens fog lamps, and a fold-down luggage rack. This Series 1803 convertible coupe is now offered with an Ohio title.

The 18th series Packards were introduced for the 1940 model year and saw the Super Eight designation divided into the One-Sixty and One-Eighty ranges, each available on three wheelbases. The 127”-wheelbase 1803 platform carried six body styles from which to choose, including this example’s style-1379 convertible coupe coachwork. A repaint in cream was carried out under previous ownership, and the car features a V-shaped split windshield, a Goddess of Speed mascot, yellow-lens fog lamps, a grille guard, a tan soft top, running boards, and a fold-down luggage rack.

Body-color steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with 7.00–16″ Firestone Deluxe Champion wide-whitewall tires. Dual side-mount spares are housed under body-color covers topped with side mirrors. Stopping is handled by four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

The cabin features bench seats trimmed in brown leather along with matching door panels. Tan carpets line the floors, and features include woodgrain door caps, roll-up windows, a locking glovebox door with an inset clock, an AM radio, and an under-dash heater.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a painted woodgrain dashboard housing a 120-mph speedometer and gauges monitoring engine temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. The fuel level gauge does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 64k miles. Approximately 100 miles have been added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.

The 356ci L-head inline-eight was factory equipped with a nine-bearing crankshaft, hydraulic lifters, and a single Stromberg AAV-26 downdraft carburetor. Output was factory rated at 160 horsepower.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The car is equipped with an overdrive unit that does not work. The selling dealer notes clutch chatter in first gear on take-off, and tells us that use of the secondary electric fuel pump is required intermittently. Suspension incorporates a coil-sprung independent setup with an anti-roll bar and a leaf-sprung solid rear axle, while lever-arm shock absorbers are utilized at each end. The fuel tank was cleaned and serviced in preparation for the sale.
