This 1968 Ford Mustang was initially built as a Brittany Blue 289 fastback, and it had been repainted Highland Green and retrofitted with a 390ci V8 and a four-speed manual at some point before it was acquired by the seller in 2023. It has since received a ~$180k comprehensive mechanical and drivetrain build while retaining the body and interior as acquired. The build centers on an FE 390ci V8 custom-built by Kotzu Racing in San Antonio, Texas, to displace approximately 428ci, paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ Positraction rear axle with 3.70:1 gearing. Additional modifications include a shock-tower-delete front suspension, RideTech coilovers, TCP power rack-and-pinion steering, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, a Scott Drake electric brake booster, Holley EFI, Vintage Air, a retro-look radio, and a four-point roll bar. Approximately 1k miles have been since the work was completed. This Mustang is now offered with a Deluxe Marti Report, records, and an Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Originally Brittany Blue, the car is now finished in Highland Green. Holley LED headlights, taillights, turn signals, reverse lights, and hood lighting were installed in July 2024, along with new hood hinges and pins.

The build uses a RideTech full coilover suspension system, a Rod & Customs front end, a four-link rear end, front and rear sway bars with polyurethane bushings, billet-aluminum tie-rod sleeves, TCP power rack-and-pinion steering, and a shock-tower-delete front suspension conversion.

Staggered BFGoodrich tires were mounted on the 15″ American Racing wheels in July 2024. Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes with Forged Dynalite Pro Series calipers, braided lines, a Dynapro low-profile parking-brake kit, and a Scott Drake electric brake booster are fitted.

Interior equipment includes a Vintage Air Gen IV air-conditioning system, a retro-style stereo, a console, a four-point roll bar, and Dynamat sound and heat insulation beneath the original-style carpet. The car was completely rewired as part of the build, and the Holley display screen is mounted over the dashboard.

A 14″ dished Cobra-style steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. Additional gauges are mounted behind the factory-style dash, and a Holley EFI system is integrated into the instrumentation. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 61k miles, with approximately 1k miles added under current ownership. The seller notes that the speedometer and aftermarket oil-pressure gauge require attention.

The 390 FE-based V8 was custom-built by Kotzu Racing in San Antonio, Texas, in 2024, to approximately 428ci with 4.130″ Icon forged pistons, an Eagle 3.980″ crankshaft, Eagle H-beam connecting rods, Clevite H-series bearings, a Rollmaster billet timing set, machined heads, Harland Sharp roller rockers, a Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters, and an Edelbrock intake manifold.

Additional equipment includes ceramic-coated headers, 428 valve covers and dress-up components, an Ansen air cleaner, serpentine-belt system, new battery, and GRI radiator with dual electric fans. The inner fender areas were fabricated and refinished following the shock-tower-delete conversion. The engine is managed by a Holley EFI system with a tune by Biddle Motorsports.

Images detailing the ~$180k worth of work performed by the seller are detailed in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. The conversion includes the flywheel, bellhousing, clutch, crossmember, driveshaft, and related components. A Ford 9″ rear axle with a 3.70:1 limited-slip differential was also used for the build.

The exhaust was revised during the build and uses stainless-steel piping with an H-member and side exits behind the doors; the current configuration includes exhaust cutouts and no mufflers or catalytic converters. An underbody heat shield is installed.

The Deluxe Marti Report lists a build date of January 1, 1968, and displays production statistics, factory colors, and equipment.
The title lists the car as a two-door hardtop and carries an odometer reading of 60,429 miles with an “Actual” notation.
