This Alfa Romeo single-seater was constructed for use in the Formula Alfa Boxer open-wheel series. The fiberglass bodywork is finished in a red and white livery and is mounted to a space frame chassis riding on staggered-width 13” four-spoke wheels. The 1.7-liter boxer four is outfitted with dual Weber carburetors, while shifting is via a five-speed manual gearbox. The car is further equipped with an inboard-mounted coilover suspension and four-wheel disc brakes as well as front and rear wings. Recently acquired by the selling dealer, this Formula Alfa Boxer is now offered on a bill of sale in Boca Raton, Florida.

Following the success of the single-make Alfasud Trofeo race series, Alfa Romeo launched the Formula Alfa Boxer series in 1987. The specified single-seat open-wheel formula cars featured fiberglass bodywork and aluminum panels over a space frame chassis with an integrated roll hoop.

This example is finished in red with white accents and various manufacturer decals. Air intakes are located on either side of the cockpit, while wings are fitted fore and aft.

The suspension features a pushrod front design along with a cantilever rear setup and utilizes inboard-mounted coilovers all around.

The chassis rolls on 13″ four-spoke wheels finished in white with red accents that wear older Michelin slicks.

A plexiglass windscreen sits ahead of the cockpit, which retains an older Britax Sabelt–branded harness. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts an LED screen along with gauges monitoring water temperature and oil pressure. The car is not equipped with an odometer, and total mileage is unknown.

The 1.7-liter boxer four was derived from the contemporary road-going Alfa Romeo 33 and Sprint. Induction is via dual Weber carburetors with individual intake trumpets, cooling is from dual radiators housed in the side pods, and the car is further equipped with a dual exhaust system. The selling dealer has not tried to start the engine.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Braking is via solid four-wheel discs with the rear units mounted inboard.

The selling dealer is unable to locate the chassis number on the vehicle itself. A photo of the engine block stamping is shown in the gallery.

The car is not legal for road use, has not been registered for the street, and carries no title or registration. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
